2006 WHPSC Thursday Pictures and Racing Results

Sean Costin reports:
I talked very briefly with Al Krause. They had just come back to the hotel. Bill Gaines will email more complete info to Warren tonight. Conditions must have been good. Weather Underground indicates no wind and 60 deg. F., but temperatures at 5pm were 80 deg. and 10% humidity. Very similar conditions to the first 80 Mph runs of Sam Whittingham and Matt Weaver. Friday and Saturday look to be about 10 Deg. cooler. Based on my experience, this will go down as the fastest night for the event.

Sam Whittingham 79.53 mph
Fred Markham 77.21 mph
Rob Hitchcock 62.33 mph
Dean Peterson 51 mph
Tom Novak DNF
Matthew Scott riding Hindsight for Calpoly crashed- Rider is OK.
Damjan Zabovnik crashed hard in the traps. He was not completely coherent, so he was taken to the hospital. His vehicle had a big chunk out of it. Al believes he is done racing for the week.

Check out Fast Freddy Markham's helmet cam video of his run

Dean Pederson makes his run on SR305 in the Coyote. Perfect lighting with the setting sun!
San Whittingham makes a high speed pass in the Varna Diablo
Fast Freddy Markham streaks by in the Easy Varna.
Another beautiful sunset on the dry lake bed that SR 305 crosses outside Battle Mountain.

Matt Scott was fighting gusting crosswinds, trying to compensate for them to stay on the road. He was still compensating when a gust stopped, and he went off the road. His front tire dug in, and he did an endo, crashing on his head. He went to the hospital voluntarily as Damjan was leaving the hospital. Matt checked out okay.

Rob Hitchcock blurs by in low light during the group 2 runs.
