The 2005 World Human Powered Speed Challenge is the 6th consecutive year of this prestigious event. This competition pits man, technology, and sheer determination against the seemingly insurmountable forces of air resistance and friction to determine the absolute boundaries of man powered speed over a 200-meter distance. The use of high-level aerodynamics and maximum athletic power results in shockingly fast speeds. Take a look at this video of the WHPSC 2004 event on the Easy Racers site for an idea just how fast these bikes are going.

Current WHPSC Records:
In 2002, Sam Whittingham broke the world speed record for the third year in a row by going 81.00 MPH!
In 2004, Ellen van Vugt set a new Women's world speed record, with a speed of 65.89 MPH.
In 2003, Damjan Zabovnik broke the European speed record by going 68.21 MPH facing backwards!

Once again, the .deciMach prize for human powered speed of over $23,000 will be offered this year to the first racer to go 82MPH at this event! Lesser prizes will be awarded in the event that the .decimach barrier is not broken.

Do you want to race at Battle Mountain? Though runs on the SR 305 are prioritized for recognized speed champions, anybody with a fast bike can try out for the event. In addition to the speed runs, there will be drag races on Friday and hopefully some crits on Saturday.

In October of 2005 racers will gather on SR305 outside of Battle Mountain, Nevada to race on one of the straightest, flattest, and smoothest surfaces in the world. The 4,619ft (1,408m) altitude road allows riders an acceleration zone of over 4 miles, enabling them  to reach their maximum velocity.

The WHPSC is not only an opportunity to set an IHPVA sanctioned world record for speed, it also represents the World's Fastest Human propelled by their own power
