Dave Balfour grimaces while racing his Cobra lowracer. Perhaps the unused front derailleur post is causing too much drag |
| Dave Balfour races his fully-faired Trisled trike in the Streamliner class. Dave raced in three classes on Saturday & Sunday (stock, streamliner, & trike), so raced in every single race on both days! I think there should be an Ironman award for that... |

Jason Erickson flew in from (Nevada?) to race Mike Mowett's newly- purchased Norus streamliner. Jason has raced streamliners before, but not the Norus. He started rather tentatively but gained confidence quickly, and despite an unfamiliar machine and somewhat windy conditions he was was
running with the experienced racers after not too many laps. |

L to R: Chris Cortez on a
Gritters lowracer with M5 tailbox, Dave Balfour on a Cobra lowracer, and
Mike Mowett on a Optima Baron.
Though Mike has been involved with HPVs
for many years, this was his first race on a recumbent. |

It takes a village: here Norus racer Jason (green shirt) watches as Mike replaces the derailed chain. Dennis Grelk holds the top, while Len Brukella (black shirt) and Warren Beauchamp (yellow jersey) pretend to help.
|
| Sunday's racer were at the
Kenosha velodrome. Here Jane Hunn
runs the Hurricane Harry Challenge. This year's challenge was to come as
close to Harry's one lap time as possible, while riding Harry's trike.
|
 |
 |
With amazing feats of internal
clocks, the winners of the challenge all came within 1 second of
Harrry's official time, which was around 85 seconds. Winners L to R :
Mike Mowett - 1st, Bill Cassidy - 2nd, and Jon Liam - 3rd. Harry Wozniak
hangs out on the trike.
Harry handed out the $300 in prize money.
The name of the contest comes from a sign that was put up at the Wheel &
Sprocket Expo this year (Hurricane Harry's Restaurant menu board
modified to a recumbent event board).
With the heat and wind, it seemed
appropriate! |
| John Liam hangs onto the fence
on the M5 highracer. He looks like he can't believe what he's about to attempt!
Len Brunkalla prepares the flags, while
racers Dennis Grelk, Gary Toy, and Warren Beauchamp prepare to race. |
