I was wondering what Teams/People/Bikes will be competing at Battle Mountain this year. Unfortunately I won't be able to show up due to lack of funds. Hopefully there will be good coverage at the event to allow outsiders to enjoy the excitement. I really was hoping to be one of the people blogging this year, and sharing my pictures. I will miss seeing all my friends there. Good luck to everyone, and be safe.

Thanks for complement Jun. I was hoping to get another World Record breaking photo this year. Maybe it will be AeroVelo this time? I believe that John Jackson will be helping Larry out.

Eivie IV

Aure will probably not come this year. If I miraculously gather much bigger budget in the last days, I can come.

Jonathan;
I'll not be at Battle Mountain this year after all. I will ship the tripod out to Bertha at the Super 8, with your name on the box. Afterwards, just donate it to the timing crew equipment stash.
I will also be sending out some windshields for Team Elan ( addressed to Bertha.)

Julius says that Barbara will not be able to attend this year. They are looking at ways of getting more funding through her Indiegogo website. Currently they are short of funds.

I'm sorry to hear that. So much potential out there and so little money.

Wow, it looks like many people will be missing from the race this year. I can't believe that there might not be a Varna team member for the first time ever at Battle Mountain. There was a time when I just took it for granted that certain people would always be around. "Oh the times they are a changin'." (Bob Dylan)

With all the people not coming will there be enough volunteers to help run the show?

Just an outsider fan's perspective, but maybe it's time to consider running BM every other year, with the off year allowing time to focus on fund raising and some type of regional challenge events to continue pushing on-going innovation.

Hello Ray. Nice to see someone relatively new to the message boards on here. Have you had the chance to see these bikes compete in person? You really should think about coming out to the event sometime if you haven't already. They always need volunteers. Being a volunteer allows you to be in areas of the race that provide some of the best vantage points.

Your previous use of the word bi-annual made me think you were trying to say every other year. Bi-annual means twice a year, and I don't think that's what you intended to say.

It would be really hard for people to wait 2 years in order to race at Battle Mountain. For some teams this might be the only way to test their vehicles at high speed. Some teams don't have the money to afford a wind tunnel, or CFD analysis. They might get some testing done prior to Battle Mountain at speeds under 50 mph. By making the competition every other year it would effectively slow the progress of more efficient designs. If teams can't afford to run every year they don't have to. There is no reason to obstruct those who have the money to compete every year just because some people can't.

Thanks for sharing your thoughts. We are always interested in hearing what other people think.

Too easy to mix up. For example, the first two rows at this site are screwed up. In the comments, the author says that they've been used so often as being interchangeable, that it is now acceptable to use either. Yikes!

Just say "every two years" and it is always clear, ha ha!

I see clearly now. At first I was unsure because someone else mentioned that Bi-annual meant twice a year. Then I did a search online and found this:http://www.merriam-webster.com/dictionary/biannual
I read through it quickly and didn't realize that at the top it showed both meanings. Now I understand how people would use it both ways. I'm sorry to have bothered with the correction of what Ray stated. Thanks for the clarification Larry.

Team Cygnus will be present.
This year with Jan-Marcel and Thomas, but unfortunately without David Verbroekken and Frans Suijkerbuijk (Sugar).

They will however be replaced by fast man Sjaak Bloemberg (http://recumbents.com/wrra/records.asp?MoreInfo=Yes&ID=82 ) and Jan-Marcel's wife Erika (keeping an eye on her man with all those pretty Battle Mountain ladies...)

Looking forward to seeing all our friends again,

On behalf of team Cygnus
Thomas

One more article that might clear things up, or confuse even more is here:http://www.writersdigest.com/editor-blogs/questions-and-quandaries/grammar/bi-annual-vs-biennial
According to this article, and two more that I read online, "bi-annual" means twice a year and "biennial" means every other year. Hopefully this is the end of the English lesson for the day. Now lets get on with the topic at hand. What were we talking about again? Oh yeah, Battle Mountain. Sorry to stray from the subject.

Hello Thomas. I was wondering if you would be at the event this year. Somewhere I had read that you were retiring. So will Sjaak be riding the Cygnus bike? I really wish I was going to be out there to see you and so many others. Let's hope that this year you get the conditions necessary for a new World Record.

Just to confuse matters still further, there used to be something called the Biennial Cup, one of the lesser trophies at the Le Mans 24 Hours. From what I can ascertain it was awarded to the manufacturer with the best overall result over two consecutive races, though no-one can adequately explain how Ferrari came to win in for the 1939/49 races when they didn't exist pre-WW2...
