Alice here -
I'm sorting my lists of who has earned hats. I always promise myself I will make a better master list each year, but I worry I have forgotten somebody.
Sooo...
Chime in with the hat you have, and the next one you're thinking to win.
Newcomers give me a realistic idea (I know that's hard) of how fast you think you and your bike/rider will go.
I will compile my lists and see if I need to get more made.
If you have earned a hat please remember to wear it at the races so we can all give you the attention you crave!

Getting ready,
Alice

Alice,

Still got the 65 (and the elusive "almost 70mph club" hat).
70mph will be a definite, 75mph a possible....

Hi Alice. I have(but lost) my 60 mph hat. Hope to replace with a 65 or 70. Charlie has a 55 (earned at age 14).

Thanks.

This is my first year. I'm pretty sure(based on a recent training) I can do 65mph but a 70mph hat is my goal.

Thanks,
Greg Thomas

I'll take any hat, as long as it covers my bald spot!

Larry Lem and Tom Amick - I know you should guys should also be on this list as Individual Riders, but your tandem mark always shows up as your best mark when I sort my fastest lists. I got to work with Warren to maybe fix this "bug"

Hi Jun - I forgot if there was a 50 MPH Hat, but I updated the list above to include these.

Note there are dozens of people out there who have earned legal 50, 55, 60, even one 65 mph marks over the years in competitions besides Battle Mountain. There marks are hidden from view. Jeff Nielsen is one such rider who could wear a particular hat from a timed 200-meter run in Australia, but he hasn't done it at BM yet, so this mark is hidden from the List.

For myself, I'm realistic. I hope to earn a 60 or 65 mph hat with my old Chuck No-Rush streamliner. Anything faster than that, and I'll need a faster bike!

Are hats awarded for legal-wind runs only?
I think they might be given for all runs.

legal wind runs only, or else Victor would have had a 60 mph hat for his beer run.

Hi Alice, we never got a 65 hat for Chuck's 2008 66 mph run. I hope to be there this year to collect it.

Suggestion: make available (for a fee to benefit the race) hats for builders. Orders could be placed at the end of the race.We made some when we broke 65 that say "builder" instead of "club". After all, without the builders investing huge amounts of time and money, what would we ride?

I'd like a builders hat!
Can we also get a designers hat?

I would propose that we keep it simple, and just keep them "club" hats, but give them to builders/designers as well, or maybe just a certain number per team (like 3). I agree that it does feel a little lonely when the rider gets a hat, but after thousands of hours of blood sweat and tears, there is no real recognition for the designers and builders.

He, that's not fair! I'm the chef this year (or is that only because you want me to do all the cooking)

Hey All

We are still trying to get Bluenose to work properly (that is, fast) and we still dont have a final list with our BM riders. However, the 4 from last year will be there for sure. I would expect we can each get the next hat up (Todd: 75, Trefor 70, Aidan 65 and me 60). I guess there will be another 2 or 3 60 mph hats.

We will update with more details.

Victor

P.S. Might try a scotch run this time.

The BHPC has 'The Unfortunate Scotsman Trophy'. Named for David Coulthard, F1 driver whose car kept breaking. Murray Walker described him as The Unfortunate Scotsman.
