Mike and James are still scheming on a tandem and I'm still reviewing design information learned at this years event and deciding how to modify the Spavari plug.

Only 9 months to go? Has anyone started building?

You know when I was last over Speedbiker Thom's house, he had a very nice Coslinger 2.5 shell just sitting there, with a nice half-completed frame, and one MONSTER chainring with his custom super low Q-cranks.... I'm just itching to see that thing on the road. The shell was designed by Thom's brother Charlie who knows his stuff, like how to model stuff using CFD, and the results showed it had up to 25% less drag than their Coslinger 1.0, which Sean reportably cranked up to 70 mph, back when going 70 mph was only something Sam and Matt could do....

Well, we should be putting together the fork tonight. The tries and wheels have already arrived. The mock-up should be completed within about a week. And the frame will be completed by the end of the Thanksgiving break. Remarkably we are still on schedule.

Trying to make progress, but a four-letter word keeps interfering: "WORK".

I'm still trying to get my 2007 bike finished.

Opus

My gas is up to $0.99 a burrito, $5.99 for premium and I'm only getting 10 miles to the regular burrito. Dang $0.99 burritos are smaller now.

And the fork for Aurora is now finished. It is entirely rideable at the moment and if there is time will be made all pretty-like prior to painting.

I am taking some time off to do a few other things that have gotten neglected over the past few years.
Turns out I haven't been doing them lately so I may as well be working on the new bike.
I have been playing with Google Sketch Up and trying to decide on a new front tire size but thats about it.

Kingsbury K-drive?

I've always been curious about these, but I have much more fundamental problems to overcome before I start delving into "more advanced" technology.

UofT needs to be ready in May for our ASME race. We finished our main design last week and we are going to start building the mold this month.

Our assumption is that Delft and/or Sam will beat the current record. It is a matter of how much they beat it by, and if we can get close to the new speed.

Vortex did well, but it had a number of aerodynamic mistakes. We hope the new bike will be able to rectify these mistakes, and also get some more efficiency out of tires, ergonomics, etc.

Will keep updating pictures as well, the aero shape keeps changing so i will not post pictures of that yet.

My Chuck No-Rush 2012 build was done in 2010, and originally minted in about 1999. It doesn't stand a chance against the Varna - Vortex - VeloX gang, but at least I know I'll have another year to train to get a few more mph out of it.

Which the Kingsburys gave up due to:

  • fragility, and
  • the same effect being achievable with less weight and complication by using shorter cranks

I'm working on a vehicle for Battle Mt. but it's not a streamliner, it's a roach coach and I'm the soup nazi.

The San Jose HPV Club is working on a speed bike for BM. We are currently in the "design phase" hoping to have a prototype bike (sans fairing) ready for the HPV races at Hellyer Velodrome at the end of May.

These are females machined in X grade polystyrene. From there I'll make a nice solid fiberglass plug, bring that to a finish in 2 part paint then make my molds from that

I haven't raced any streamliners since I lived in CA. But after a decade of watching $10,000 diamond frames zip around here in Boulder, it is time for me to get back in a shell. I will be starting a build in the next couple weeks and plan to have my butt handed to me at Battle Mountain and I will be smiling the whole way, just happy to fly a low altitude missle again.

Hell's never seen a snowball like me.
