Aurélien should have finished his hour attempt in 4..., 3..., 2..., 1.. mark. It's 12:00 local time right (6 hours ahead of Eastern Standard Time) Garrie, do they have the live PowerMeters hooked up to the Internet?

This place is HUGE! One facility with an indoor 250 meter velo track, and all kinds of track and field (roller blade track, pole vault, running, broadjump, etc) on the infield. It also has an indoor basketball court with seating, volley ball, and other stuff too. Looks to be about 1500 seats for the velo spectators.

Hi Garrie,
Thanks for the info and pics so far, I’d very much appreciate if you would get some good shot of our home boy Paul Collender.

Garrie, can you confirm those numbers? 50.389 km = 31.31 miles = Gert-Jan's old mark. It appears that Aurélien rode the 2nd or 3rd fastest Stock recumbent one-hour mark this morning. We anxiously await more action from the track including Sean, Barbara, Hans runs later ...

OK, I'm back from lunch....... As wonderful as this facility is, the designer was obviously on some type of chemical when he came up with access/egress. Takes FOREVER to get out of the infield to the lunch shop :-(

Anyhow, they are getting ready to start the 200 meter sprints.

Evidently, the timing system was recording in two different formats. So, the data is there, just not immediately readable. All of the 200 meter runs are done. Guess what? Sean ran twice. Glutton for punishment.

Gert-Jan has surpassed the 51.151 km legendary 1984 ride of Francesco Moser using disk wheels, skinsuit, cow-horn aerobar at high-altitude in Mexico City. This was the UCI ride that bettered Eddy Merckx's 1972 ride of 49.43195 km, also in Mexico City.

Recumbents are still not as fast as the 1993-current UCI absolute record machines. Graeme Obree set the first mark 51.596 km during this period with his unique arms to chest upright bicycle. Ironically, Moser used this style of bike in 1994 and went 51.840 km for a UCI Veterans or Masters Record for riders at age 42 years old in high-altitude Mexico City. Note that this was FASTER than his 1984 mark and faster than Obree's mark, but not an outright record because Boardman and Obree had already pushed the One-Hour mark out further. Moser's ride was for a 10 year celebration of his record run. He had met Obree and wanted to try his style (details in the Flying Scotsman by Graeme Obree). Moser wanted to get in a ride before the UCI outlawed Obree's "Preying Mantis" riding position.
UCI Records Listing: http://oldsite.uci.ch/modello2.asp1stlevelid=C&level1=2&level2=14&idnews=3454

Gert Jan Wijers is also aged 42. He is just over a 1/2 kilometer slower than Moser's Veteran mark set at high-altitude.
OKAY, let me summarize more:
Gert Jan Wijer's new 51.287 km Recumbent mark set today is...
136 meters further than Fracesco Moser's 51.151 km 1984 legendary World Record
309 meters short of Graeme Obree's 51.596 km 1993 legendary World Record
553 meters short of Franceso Moser's 51.840 km 1994 UCI Masters Record
Gert-Jan is likely the fastest veteran cyclist in the world (on a recumbent or UCI-bike) at low-altitude.
