.DeciMach speed challenge and hpra race results
The
.decimach prize for human powered speed will be offered for the last time
at the 2008 WHPSC. Please see
below for details. NOTE:
The .deciMach is not to be confused with the annual Battle Mountain
World Human Powered Speed Challenge.
Currently, the best known site for holding the .deciMach is State Route 305 in Battle Mountain, Nevada, USA. The .deciMach
was held in
conjunction with the WHPSC at Battle Mountain for the 2002, 2003, 2004,
and 2005 events. Since 2003, the surface condition of SR 305 has been
degrading (as have been the top speeds). SR 305 was scheduled for a “chip seal” treatment, which would seriously damage high
speed runs, and because of this the .decimach was put on hiatus. SR 305 is, however, scheduled for a major resurface project
in
2008. HPV enthusiasts have worked tirelessly with the Nevada government to
get a smooth surface applied to the race section of SR 305. When this resurface project is complete,
SR 305 should be better than it has been for any time in the last six
years.
Because of this, the .deciMach prize will be taken off hiatus for the 2008
WHPSC. This will be the final running of the .deciMach. After this
final running, the .deciMach Prize will be awarded to the top recorded .deciMach
speed run attained during previous .deciMach events. Prior to the 2008
WHPSC, Canadian Sam Whittingham has the fastest .deciMach speed run.
